The Emperor Seamount chain in
the northwestern Pacific links the
Hawaiian chain to the intersection
of the Aleutian Trench and the Kuril
Kamchatka Trench. Together, the
Emperor seamounts and the
Hawaiian chain form a line of
mid-ocean volcanic mountains not
associated with plate boundaries.
