Background Info:
The Argentine Basin is formed by
the eastern continental slope of the
South American Plate and by the
Falkland Escarpment, the edge of a
submarine plateau. At its deepest point
located at the base of the
escarpment, is the Argentine
Abyssal Plain. The Argentine Basin
shows the typical featureless quality
of abyssal plains, and in this respect
is quite different from the Drake
Passage and Scotia Sea which exist
south of the Falkland Plateau.
