Background Info:
The Bay of Bengal is surmounted
by the Ganges Cone, an enormous
deposit of sediment forming an
extensive continental rise that
extends hundreds of miles into the
Bay. This sediment was deposited
by the Ganges-Brahmaputra river
system, one of the world’s great
rivers. This system, carrying a
greater quantity of sediment than
any of the other great rivers, has
formed an immense delta as well as
the cone.
