The visualizations presented in this web site span the scope of marine science topics. The goal of this project is not to be a comprehensive "text" for marine science but to take advantage of the unique capabilities of computer visualization applications to present information that extends or enhances traditional textbook presentation.
To fit best with the high school emphasis on math, physics, chemistry and biology, the site is divided into two main content areas, Physical & Chemical Processes and Biota & Biotic Processes. Those content areas are each divided into four subject areas based on how we perceive and document the world around us, the physical characteristics of our world and the life in it, interaction between and behavior of the components of the environment, and human interactions with the environment. Each subject area is further divided into modules addressing specific portions of the marine science curriculum. The modules are designed with enough material to fill a single class period with additional opportunities for further study that may be used in longer-term research projects. These modules may be used on a stand-alone basis, and are also tied directly to the High School Activities section of the Resource Guide. There you will find classroom activities which illustrate how these resources may be used in a classroom and which suggest team-based as well as individual strategies that use both computer and traditional media and resources.
