The Resources above are organized into two realms. The four on the left fall under Biota and Biotic Processes, the four on the right under Physical and Chemical Parameters and Processes. These resources are being developed to promote increased interest in science, math and technology in general and oceanography and coastal processes in particular. To fit best with the high school emphasis on math, physics, chemistry, and biology, the resources have been divided into these two general realms. Each of these is further divided into four areas which may be loosely described by asking these questions: How do we look at this realm? What is contained in this realm? What are the interactions within this realm? What is the impact of humans on this realm? Thus on the Biota/Biotic side we have: Classification Systems, Environmental Adaptations, Marine Communities, and Human Interactions. On the Physical/Chemical side we have: Mapping and Analytical Systems, Basin and Coastal Morphology, Hydrologic Systems, and Human Interactions. It is our intention that these activities find their way into most of the courses found in the high school curriculum, certainly into the core science and technology courses.
The high school portion of the Resource Guide is being developed to provide activities that integrate the COAST Visualization resources into the high school classroom. These activities are presented as examples of how these resources may be used. Teachers and students are encouraged to use these activities as inspiration for the creation of new activities and uses.
We want to know about new and novel ways to use these resources, as well as suggestions for improvements. Please use the Contact Us links to tell us what you think and to send us activities that you and your class have developed.
