SHAKE, RATTLE, AND ROLL!!
PLATE TECTONICS IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST.

Watch out!!!  The Pacific plate is running into the North American plate, and it's not pretty.  The consequences range from earthquakes to volcanoes to tsunamis.

What's Happening
The surface of the earth is covered by brittle pieces of rocky crust, called plates. These plates float on the mantle, which moves these plates as it circulates.  Off of the west coast of North America, the Pacific, Juan de Fuca North American plates have run into each other.

Volcanoes
One thing that happens is that volcanoes occur.  Mt St Helens is one example. Check it out!

Earthquakes
When these rocks rattle and roll, you can know where they're shakin'.  Check it out!

Tsunamis
Surf the Tsunami waves, if you dare. Surf's up!
