One of my favorite classroom
activities is called "Swamp Walk". This allows the students to explore
wetlands by getting down and dirty in an actual swamp. All sorts
of samples are collected as students trudge through the swamp and later
these are analyzed in lab. I believe in experiential education and
many students ask to repeat this activity through-out the year.
Science rules! My favorite
subject is weather, Having been chased by several tornadoes makes you a
believer. I teach weather, Water Cycle, Earth Science, and Physical Sciences.
Looking for Students of Color who want to go into science related fields
of study. I am a Globe teacher, Jason Project at Jordan SOEL, MPLS.
My classroom often looks
as if it were hir by a tornado! Students are generally actively iv
selected as a Teacher involved in some project. I teach mainly junior
high students and enjoy their enegy. I was recently selected as a
Teacher Argonaut for Jason XI, and will be going to NASA Houston in early
2000. I am excited about this opportunity to bring more real science
to my students and fellow teachers. Check out the Jason Project at http://www.jasonproject.org
Teaching Jr. High Science
is still fun -- after several decades! I'm glad that we now have National
Standards as well as State Standards. Science is not intended to
be a passive subject; so I teach it as a verb. Let's share ideas at MnSTA
and through the Sci/Math networks known as Building a Prescence for Science.
